Architectural Specifications Writer Actively Seeking

INVISION is actively seeking a Specifications Writer to join our team immediately.

Responsibilities include: Assist in the preparation and editing of commercial and institutional architectural specifications and project manuals for a full-service architectural firm. Work with current specifications writer for a period of time, eventually assuming full responsibility. Review drawings for quality control and coordination with specifications. Work with project architects in product and material selection. Provide specification support through Construction Administration. Meet product representatives and lead specification related best practices for INVISION. Assist in research and become resource for new and changing building products. Occasional travel between INVISION office locations is required.



Candidate must have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, architectural technology or other construction related field.
  • Five years of experience in creating specifications for commercial and institutional architectural projects
  • Ability to work concurrently on multiple projects
  • Knowledge and experience with construction processes and architectural materials
  • Excellent interpersonal skills working well in a team setting
  • Familiarity with CSI MasterFormat
  • Experience with MasterSpec or BSD specification editing software systems
  • CSI CCS, LEED AP preferred
  • Revit, detailing and CADD experience preferred.

Architectural Student Intern Actively Seeking

Summers interns at INVISION will be given a broad range of work experiences. We believe that exposure to all aspects of professional architectural practice is what sets the stage to great team members in the future. Summer interns at INVISION will be involved in projects at many levels.

Description and Details:

Tasks may include the following. Hiring decisions for summer interns will be made in February. Applicants are encouraged to submit your resume in advance as well as attend the Iowa State University Career Fair.

  • Graphics for presentations
  • Master planning documentation and meetings
  • Construction document preparation
  • Site visits
  • Construction meeting attendance
  • Photography support
  • Other tasks as available


Revit, Adobe Creative Suite and Sketch-up skills are helpful in addition to freehand sketching.

A professional degree in Architecture is required and at least two years of experience preferred.
