A hands-on learning environment

July 31, 2019
We recognize the importance of learning and teaching in the architectural environment. This summer, we had the pleasure of working with some outstanding students. We asked them to tell us what they learned during their time at INVISION. Here’s what they had to say:

David Phan
Iowa State University, Bachelor of Architecture  |  Anticipated graduation May 2020
I enjoyed meeting new people from the firm and dipping my toes into the world of architecture through the engagement of related work and interactions such as site visits and field verification. It was a good experience of what my future looks like once I graduate and make my way towards a permanent career path.

Evan Williams
Iowa State University, Bachelor of Architecture  |  Anticipated graduation May 2020

I learned a lot this summer. The two things that stand out the most is how detail-oriented being an architect entails and that construction documentation takes the most time in the design process.

Lindsay Althoff
University of Northern Iowa, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design  |  Graduated May 2019

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at INVISION. The people make the environment a great place to work and learn. Everyone here is willing to teach and help direct when they can which made it easy to ask questions. It did not take me long to discover that everyone likes to have fun whether it be at Back Alley Barbeques on Wednesdays or having snacks to celebrate someone in the office.

Samantha Kragel
Iowa State University, Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design  |  Anticipated graduation May 2020

What I enjoyed most about working at INVISION was the environment. The atmosphere was extremely welcoming. I was never worried when I had a question because everyone in the office was there to help to their full extent. I loved to see the dynamic integration between disciplines every day. This office has a wonderful balance of diligence and leisure; professionalism and playfulness.

Seth Jenkins
Iowa State University, Bachelor of Architecture  |  Anticipated graduation May 2020

Right before my departure for Germany, the studio talked about adding more climate/EUI focused design in our projects. Fortunately, my focus while in Berlin was exactly that! I was able to return with some new found knowledge to share. I continue to learn more everyday about client relations and new aspects of the practice whenever I am in the studio.
