Danielle McCoy Becomes a Certified Design Futurist

June 25, 2026

The environments we design today will influence people for years, often decades, to come. As technology evolves, demographics shift, and communities change, the most successful spaces are those designed not only for today’s needs, but with an understanding of what may come next.

To strengthen that future-focused approach, Danielle McCoy, NCIDQ, Senior Associate and Interior Designer at INVISION, recently earned her Certified Design Futurist (CDF) credential through the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).

The CDF program introduces design professionals to strategic foresight, a discipline that helps organizations identify emerging trends, examine critical uncertainties, and explore multiple plausible futures. Rather than attempting to predict what will happen, strategic foresight helps leaders prepare for change and make more resilient decisions in the present.

Great design has always started with understanding people,” Danielle said. Strategic foresight expands that perspective by helping us understand the forces shaping the future and how those changes may impact the environments we create. It allows us to ask better questions, challenge assumptions, and help clients think beyond immediate needs.”

Throughout the program, participants studied signals and trends across education, technology, demographics, public health, economics, infrastructure, and the environment. They learned how to translate those insights into future scenarios that can inform planning, investment, and design decisions.

With 18 years of experience designing spaces that support learning, connection, and community, Danielle sees foresight as a natural extension of her work. By combining human-centered design with future-focused thinking, she helps clients explore how evolving needs, behaviors, and expectations may influence the spaces they are planning today.

Whether designing schools, higher education environments, libraries, workplaces, or community spaces, strategic foresight creates opportunities to move beyond solving current challenges and begin preparing for future possibilities.

Danielle’s achievement reflects INVISION’s commitment to curiosity, innovation, and continuous learning. By bringing strategic foresight into the design process, our team can help clients make more informed decisions today while building greater adaptability and resilience for tomorrow.
