Bright Minds, Bold Futures: Meet Our Summer Interns

September 11, 2025

At INVISION, we believe the future of architecture is shaped not only by the spaces we create, but by the people we mentor. Each summer, our internship program brings emerging designers into our studios, offering us fresh ideas, new energy, and conversations that challenge us to think differently.

This year, we were proud to welcome four exceptional interns across our Iowa offices. Their diverse backgrounds, design interests, and fearless curiosity enriched our teams in ways that go far beyond project contributions.

Nick Ritland

Architectural Intern | Des Moines Office

Nick spent his second summer in the Des Moines office, initially joining INVISION in May of 2024 in our Waterloo office. This fall, he’ll be going back to Iowa State University, where he’s getting his Master of Architecture.

I found the Indianola High School tour to be one of the most insightful parts of my internship. Getting to see such a large space mid-construction was a very eye-opening and inspiring experience.

Emily Strieker

Architectural Intern | Des Moines Office

Emily will be entering her third year at Iowa State University this fall, working towards her Bachelor of Architecture degree. This was her first summer working in our Des Moines office.

Architecture is such a complex field that there is only so much that one can learn in the classroom. After working here for the past few months, I can confidently say that I have gained so much more and have acquired many valuable skills to take with me into the future, far exceeding my expectations for the summer. My experience at INVISION has given me the opportunity to get a glimpse into the professional architectural world and prepared me for life after graduating.”

Drew Larsen

Architectural Intern | Waterloo Office

This summer was Drew’s second year interning in our Waterloo office. Drew will return to Iowa State University this fall for his final year in the Bachelor of Architecture program, where he’s eager to further the hands-on experience he’s gained at INVISION

A highlight of my internship was the chance to work on a wide variety of projects — from a small building addition to a large new athletic facility. Working with new teams across each project also exposed me to a variety of new approaches and perspectives. Seeing how all of the processes differed between the unique markets taught me a great deal.”
