AP Lofts

Des Moines, IA

Two vacant buildings in downtown Des Moines, a 1911 grocery store warehouse and a connecting building from 1927, became AP Lofts, one of the early loft conversions in the capital. INVISION worked to rehabilitate the historic structures into 70 market-rate apartments while also rigorously following the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Preservation.

The finished space offers distinctive living in light-filled units with downtown views, as well as highlighting the building’s former life as a warehouse. Incorporating features like indoor parking and a rooftop terrace gathering space with downtown views, AP Lofts offers a vintage-chic urban living experience for downtown’s growing population of young professionals.

It was fun to navigate the complexities of historical preservation to create a vintage-chic space that meets the needs of the city’s growing population of young professionals. Their quest for a distinctive urban living experience made discovery and programming fun for the team. They incorporated features like a rooftop terrace with built-in barbecues and parking in the basement and on portions of the first floor.
