Story County Medical Center faced challenges with their divided campus. INVISION worked closely with stakeholders to create a master campus and facility plan to be used as a dynamic framework for future development. The resulting consolidated campus vision called for all services to be located on the south campus and the Discovery process revealed that this critical access hospital needed an expansion to provide needed outpatient services.
The one-story addition and renovation to the existing hospital consolidated all outpatient services including primary care, therapy, rehabilitation, and wellness into a state-of-the-art facility focused on quality of care. Natural light and views enhance the patient experience while materials were chosen to complement the existing palette with a more progressive and energy-efficient design. The ipé and terracotta facades were woven into the interior design as well, where they meet additional natural materials and graphics promoting health and wellness.
In addition to patient needs, the expansion was designed to serve visitors and the community as a whole. With a new multi-purpose room, wellness and education center, outdoor garden, and public dining experience, Story County Medical Center offers a heightened level of care and community.
