University of Kansas Dyche Hall

Lawrence, KS

Dyche Hall is a historic educational, research, and museum building on the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence. The project addressed the preservation and renovation of 8,000 SF, with work spanning both the interior and exterior of the building.

Interior renovations focused on the seventh floor, improving environmental conditions for private collections while updating offices and building systems. Work included insulating the roof and walls, installing LED lighting and new mechanical units, repairing plaster walls, and restoring or replacing wood trim. Removal of a non-historic panel ceiling revealed the original wood trusses, which were stained and restored as a defining feature of the space.

Exterior preservation included stone tuckpointing on three elevations; repairs to plaster, brick detailing, and cast-iron columns; and replacement of the roof with Ludowici clay tile selected to match the original. The project was recognized by the Kansas Preservation Alliance.
