The University of Kansas Endowment commissioned a master plan to guide the development of 82 acres of underutilized land into The Crossing at KU Innovation Park. Building on an existing concentration of research initiatives, the plan establishes a framework for an Innovation District that brings together academic research, private enterprise, housing, commercial office space, and neighborhood retail.
The master plan supports KU’s goals of attracting companies, researchers, and entrepreneurs aligned with the university’s areas of strength, expanding its research portfolio, and supporting its R1 and Association of American Universities (AAU) standing. Connections between university, research, commercial, and residential uses create opportunities for collaboration while extending activity beyond the traditional campus environment.
The resulting framework integrates places to work, live, gather, and conduct research within a connected district designed to support the continued growth of KU Innovation Park and strengthen its relationship with the broader community.
