Developed as part of the metro area’s first Single Point Urban Interchange, the 87th Street Truss establishes a distinctive gateway and identity for the City of Lenexa. Working within an accelerated two-week schedule, the design team collaborated with City leadership to define a unifying vision for the interchange and surrounding civic improvements.
The resulting design vision informed the architectural language of the interchange, with the truss emerging as its defining element. More than a singular feature, the structure established a cohesive design framework that influenced improvements throughout the corridor, including the spillway, park shelters, and supporting park facilities.
